The Roche Players
FACTS ABOUT THE ROCHE PLAYERS
The Roche Players are a group of theatrical enthusiasts who are
linked together by their employment at Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. in Nutley, NJ. This highly
spirited group has presented an annual musical for over 30 years (see below) for
the sole benefit of local charities. The production costs, which include theater rental and
associated expenses, as well as a professional staff made up of a director, choreographer,
music director, set and costume designer, is sponsored by the company. All the performers
and backstage crew work on a voluntary basis.
The people that you will see in the show are dedicated performers, who, after putting in a
full day's work, rehearse tirelessly three evenings per week over 10 weeks to put on five
to six performances of the best production possible. Over their years of existence, the
Roche Players has been a creative outlet for its members. There are a few people who have
been with the group for most of the 30+ years, some who are new to the group, and others,
which include retirees and spouses of Roche employees as well as their children.
There's a lot of work involved to put on a quality production like this which can take
time away from other things, but it's also a mental and physical break from the daily
routines. The rewards for most of the Roche Players outweigh the investment of time. The
reward is knowing that everyones efforts contribute toward better mental health in
our communities and social services for AIDS-afflicted children.
The Roche Players are thankful to
Hoffmann-La Roche for its sponsorship, and to the audience, for their
support.
